A death in custody can also close a custody record, but it must never be described as an ordinary release. Ask the originating agency for the exact disposition whenever the published sources do not resolve it.

A negative current-roster search means only that no matching person was displayed at the time checked. It does not establish that the person was never booked, was released, or avoided transfer. Use qualified wording until the originating record resolves the event.
